What are Betta Choice Guava Leaves?

Guava Leaves are just one of many botanicals harvested and packaged by industry experts Betta Choice. Like other botanicals, Guava Leaves make fantastic additions to blackwater aquariums as they lower pH, secrete natural tanning agents, and improve the overall health and vitality of your freshwater fish.

Guava Leaves are a popular choice amongst shrimp keepers as they provide a huge surface area for nutritious biofilms to grow on. They also, like other botanicals, have fungicidal and bactericidal properties that help freshwater fish and other aquatic life heal after sustaining superficial wounds. Shrimps especially like to hide under these leaves.

Key Features:

  • Gently decrease pH, making water more suitable for certain species

  • Give your aquarium a natural ‘blackwater’ look that simulates wild-like conditions

  • Supply important humins (organic compounds) that plants use to grow

  • Tanning agents released have anti-microbial properties, promoting better health and vitality

  • Provide huge surface area for nutritious biofilm development

  • Great for shrimp breeding set-ups and display aquariums

How do I use Guava Leaves in an aquarium?

Prior to placing Guava Leaves in your aquarium, it’s a good idea to boil them in fresh water. This will remove any lingering bacteria and waterlog them, increasing the chances that they’ll sink when you finally add them to your aquarium.

After boiling your Guava Leaves, strain them and then add them to your aquarium. If pre-boiled, or left for a day or two, the Guava Leaves will sink and start to release humins and tanning agents.

As natural products, Guava Leaves won’t last forever and after two to three weeks they will start to break down and lose their effectiveness. It’s recommended that you replace your Guava Leaves once they start to break down. This pack contains approximately 15 leaves.
